Specs, Review and Comparison with the C8000 series
Our very first impression after actually seeing the Samsung UN55D8000 was: Wow! The first and most eyecatching change compared to the C8000 series from 2010 is the new design. The new “One Design” bezel comes in brushed metal, almost seamless and only 0,2-inches thick. That’s only a fraction of the C8000′s 0,9-inches. It looks extremely stylish, pure elegance for your living room.
On the technical side, there are several improvements, too. The 55-inch 1080p Full HD display has a refresh rate of 240Hz and a contrast ratio of 8,000,000:1 like the UN55C8000, but uses the new Auto Motion Plus technology instead of Clear Motion only, which automatically analyzes every frame and then adjusts to virtually eradicate any motion blur even in very fast moving scenes, e.g. action movies or sports.
The picture quality is the strongest reason to buy the UN55D8000 anyway, last years model already convinced with a crystal clear image, vivid colors and deep blacks, but the blacks on the new Samsung UN55D8000 are even better, as well as the overall image quality. The reason is the new Micro Dimming Technology of the edge-lit screen which is capable of even more accurate dimming and elimination of the halo effect.
Samsung improved and perfected it’s 3D technology, too and many people will be happy to notice that the old clumpsy glasses are now history. The new 3D glasses, not compatible with last years or older HDTVs, are flexible, lightweight and comfortable. They use Bluetooth technology which makes them less prone to any interferences compared to the old ones which relied on infrared transmission.

Last but not least, the new touchscreen QWERTY remote is simply awesome. It resembles an iPhone a little, of course it looks different, but once you are used to the comfortable new remote you won’t ever want one of the old cheap plastic ones again. It’s more than a remote, a real little control center.
Overall Rating: 5/5, the Samsung UN55D8000 shows again that Samsung is one of the technology leaders and knows alot about perfection in design.
